THE CITY OF ACAPULCO
Acapulco (Officially known as Acapulco de Juárez) is a city, and major sea port in the state of Guerrero on the Pacific coast of Mexico, 300 kilometres (190 mi) southwest from Mexico City. Acapulco is located on a deep, semi-circular bay. The city has an important nautical heritage stretching back to the sixteenth century. The name "Acapulco" comes from the Nahuatl language, and means "place of big reeds". Inhabited for thousands of years by Aztecs, Acapulco was originally the centre of the fishing and trading industry.
Acapulco, located in the Mexican State of Guerrero, has a population of about 625,000 inhabitants. Acapulco's economy is based on tourism and related service industries.
