Greater Miami (Miami – Fort Lauderdale) counts 3.1 million people and is the home of famous beaches such as Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Miami Springs and Hialeah. Because of the favourite climate, a near 10 million tourists, pensioners and hibernators come to this paradise-like city which gives a considerable boost to the tourism industry.

This coastal city is also the county seat of San Diego County as well as the economic centre of the San Diego–Carlsbad–San Marcos metropolitan area. As of 2008, this metropolitan area is the 17th-largest in the United States with a population of 3,001,072 and the 38th-largest metropolitan area in the Americas when including Tijuana, Mexico. According to Forbes the city of San Diego ranks as the fifth wealthiest in the United States. Tourism remains San Diego's third-biggest industry, behind manufacturing and the military.

Seattle lies at the Pudget Sound, a sea arm of the Pacific Ocean, which forms a natural harbour.

This Californian town, surrounded on three sides by the sea, is known as the most tolerant city in the United States. The people are friendly, hospitable, and have great respect for each other. In the 50s the first critical beatniks took shelter here, followed in the 60s by the hippies. Today the city is sometimes seen as the gay capital of the world.
