THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE AMALIE
Charlotte Amalie is the capital and largest city of the U.S. Virgin Islands. The United States Virgin Islands is a group of 68 islands. The only important tourist centres are on the islands of St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix. The city of Charlotte Amalie is located on the island of Saint Thomas. In 2004 the estimated population was almost 19.000 people. The island of St. Thomas itself is located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The total surface of the island is 32 square miles and it has a population of 56,000. The official language is English, the US dollar being the official currency.
