Ushuaia National Park was created in 1960 and covers and area of 63.000 hectares. It is 12 Km southwest of Ushuaia. This is the southernmost protected area in Argentina
Its geography is typically glacial, alternating deep valleys occupied by Sphagnum moss, and mountain chains which run northeast-southeast.
The Lenga (tall deciduous beech), Ñire (Antarctic beech) and Guindo (evergreen beech) forest frame beautiful views of the Beagle channel and are criss-crossed by marked trails which offer the chance to observe the local flora and fauna.

The birdlife is varied, there are magellanic oystercatchers, kelp geese, black browed albatrosses, steamer ducks, diving petrels, great grebes, upland and ashy-headed geese and magellanic woodpeckers, among others.
Around Lapataia bay there are native kitchen middens, circles of mussel shells, left in the areas occupied by the canoe Indians known as Yamanas.
This beautiful area offers different activities to the tourist; some of these are hikes, canoeing, bicycling, fishing, camping, bird watching and beaver watching.
